Danav

Danav is a class of demons in Hindu mythology. Danavas are the offsprings of Danu, the wife of the sage Kashyap. They were the enemies of the gods, and as such they are often identified with Daityas, who were the offsprings of Diti, another wife of Kashyap. At the time of churning of the ocean, the goddess of wine Sura was also came out, but non of the demons agreed to marry her. Ultimately, one of the gods married her, since then the gods came to be known as Sur, and who refused to marry her came to be known as Asur. Danavas were also often identified with the Asuras, in the sense that they were also opposed to the gods. Thus the enemies of the gods were classed as demons which included Danavas, Daityas, and Asuras.
