Dardanelles

Dardanelles, or the Strait of Gallipoli, is a strait extending between the Archipelago and the Sea of Marmora, anciently called the Hellespont, 40 miles long, from 1 to 4 broad. It is commanded by Turkey, both sides of the strait being strongly fortified. It is internationally a significant waterway that forms part of the continental boundary between Asia and Europe and separates Asian Turkey from European Turkey.
