Deoghar

Deoghar is a district in Jharkhand state of India. Deoghar means 'the house of god'. It houses one of the gods Lord Shiv in the form of Jyotirling, and thus derived its name.

Deoghar lies between 24°5' - 25°5' north-south longitude and 87°4' - 96°9' east latitude. It is spread over an area of 2479 sq km (2,45,156 Hectare). The landscape of Deoghar is high, low, hilly and damp. It was made a district in 1983. Before this, Deoghar was a sub-division of Santhal Pargana district. The district head quarter is located at Deoghar town. This town is also famous as Baba Baidyanath Dham or Baba Dham.

The Histrory of Deoghar goes back to stone age. About 28% of the land of this district is very fertile and cultivable. Cultivation is primarily rain-fed. The crop harvest is generally quite good. The total Forest land is around 46,338 acres and land with miscellaneous plants is about 4576 acres. Ajay and More or Mayurakshi are two important rivers of this district.

14. Sarath Vidhan Sabha Constituency - Sarath and Palojori Police Stations in Deoghar sub-division; and G.Ps. Karmatanr, Shahajpur, Pindari, Lakhanpur, Rataniya, Rampurbhitra and Kajra in Jamtara Police Station in Jamtara sub-division.
