Diarbekir
Diarbekir, now Diyarbakir, is the largest city in the Kurdistan Highlands with Kurdish majority in Turkey, on the Tigris, 194 miles North-East of Aleppo. It was a historical place on the highway between Bagdad and Constantinople, with a large and busy bazaar. For Kurdish nationalists call it the capital of Kurdistan, which they seek to establish as a separate nation comprised of four regions: southeastern Turkey (Northern Kurdistan), northern Iraq (Southern Kurdistan), northwestern Iran (Eastern Kurdistan), and northern Syria (Western Kurdistan). Some also include parts of southern Transcaucasia.Nearby pages
