Diaz Miguel

Diaz Miguel (d. 1514) was governor of Porto Rico, born in Aragon in Spain. He served under Bartolomeo Columbus, brother of Christopher Columbus. He was also friend and companion of Christopher Columbus and accompanied him on his second voyage to the Americas. He discovered the gold mines of Hayna in Hispaniola. He suffered from the usual Jealousies in enterprises of the kind, but prevailed in the end. He was made lieutenant governor of Puetro Rico under Juan Ponce de León in 1509.
