Domain

Domain is a geographical area or a specified sphere of activity or knowledge. In physics, it is a discrete region of magnetism in a ferromagnetic material. Domain is also the set of possible values of the independent variables of a function in mathematics. In the Internet, it is a distinct subset having a common suffix, such as .com domains. In the definition of the elements in the metadata standard, the domain identifies valid values for a data element.
