Dumbdrudge

Dumbdrudge is an imaginary village referred to in "Sartor," a novel by Thomas Carlyle (1795 – 1881). "Sartor Resartus: The Life and Opinions of Herr Teufelsdröckh in Three Books" was first published as a serial in Fraser's Magazine from November 1833 to August 1834. The natives of the village toil and drudge away and say nothing about it, as villagers all over the world used contentedly to do, and did for most part, at the time "Sartor" was written, though less so now.
