Elizabeth Blackwell

Elizabeth Blackwell (1821 — 1910) was a US physician, born in Bristol in England, and the first woman to hold a medical degree in the United States. She graduated in 1849. She was admitted as a lady doctor into the Maternity Hospital in Paris, and to St. Bartholomew's in London. She also became the first woman listed in the Medical Register of the United Kingdom in 1859, and had since distinguished herself as a social reformer.
