Erythrea

Erythrea was formerly a colony belonging to Italy, extending from Cape Kasar 670 miles along the western shore of the Red Sea to a point in the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb; Massowah the capital.

Erythrea is now Eritrea, a country, which was part of the Ethiopian kingdom of Aksum. It became an Italian colony in 1890, captured by the British during World War II, became a federated part in 1952 and then a province in 1962 of Ethiopia, from which it gained its independence in 1993.

Asmara is now the capital and largest city of the country.
