Fra Angelico

Fra Angelico (1387-1455) was an Italian painter and Dominican friar. He was born at Mugello in Tuscany and his born name was Guido di Pietro. He became a Dominican monk at Fiesole where acquire the dmonastic name Fra Giovanni da Fiesole, but was removed to Florence, and finally to Rome, where he died.

Fra Angelico devoted his life to religious subjects, which he treated with great delicacy, beauty, and finish, and conceived in virgin purity and child-like simplicity of soul. His work in the form of fresco-painting is to be found all over Italy. He is known for his notable works done during (c. 1438-47) which include the frescos in the convent of San Marco, Florence.
