François André Philador
François André Philador (1726-1795) was a celebrated French composer and chess-player, born at Dreux. He wrote a number of operas. In regard to chess his great maxim was "Pawns are the soul of chess". He fled at the time of the French Revolution to London, where he died.Nearby pages
