Gaurikund

Gaurikund is a famous place of pilgrimage in Uttarakhand state of India. The journey to Kedarnath begins from this place. The place derives its name from a lake of the same name, which in turn derives its name from Gauri, one of the epithets of the goddess Parvati. It is believed that Gauri worshipped Lord Shiv here to make him marry her. There are other hot and cold streams nearby, and some of them are believed to contain special kind of water having medicinal effect. There is a temple of Lord Shiv and Parvati here.
