Giridih

Giridih is a district in Jharkhand state of India. It was carved out from Hazaribagh district on 6 Dec 1972. It lies between 24°11' North latitude and 86°18' East longitude. It is bounded on the north by the district of Jamui and part of Nawada district of Bihar , on the east by the district of Deoghar and Jamtara , on the south by district of Dhanbad and Bokaro and on the west by districts of Hazaribagh and Kodarma . The Giridih district is spread over an area of 4853.56sq km. Apart from natural beauty of the district, it is famous for its mineral deposits of Ruby Mica, coal, pyroxene bearing garnetiferous quartzite with felspathic gneisses, and stealite of soap stone. There are twelve blocks in Giridih district namely Giridih, Gandey, Bengabad, Pirtand, Dumri, Bagodar, Birni, Dhanwar, Jamua, Deori, Tisri, and Gawan.
