Godda

Godda is a district in Jharkhand state of India. The district derives its name from Godda town which headquarters the District administration. Godda is the only town in this district. The district is spread over an area of 2110 sq. kms with an average height of 100.414 metres above sea level.

It lies between 24°47' to 25°23' Northern Latitude and between 87°08' to 87°48' Eastern Longitude. The district is bounded by the district of Sahebganj in the north , Dumka district in the south , Pakur district in the east and Banka and Bhagalpur districts of Bihar state in the west . It falls under Santhal Pargana Division.

It has one Sub - Division Godda and eight blocks namely Boarijore , Godda, Mahagama, Meharama, Pathargama, Poraiyahat, Sunderpahari and Thakurgangti. The two blocks Boarijore and Sunderpahari fall under Damin Area, which has special status and revenue law due to different socio-economic, ethnic and cultural values. There are 2304 villages falling under 172 Panchayats. Out of the 2304 villages only 1622 are chiragi (inhabited by human beings). Total of 1206 revenue villages are Pradhani villages. The predominating features of this tribal region, whose major part is covered by the Rajmahal hill range is rocky, infertile and dotted with hills heavily eroded slopes and degraded forest.

The History of Godda dates back from stone age. It witnessed many ups and downs and finally got the status of a district in 1983.

16. Poreyahat Vidhan Sabha Constituency - Poreyahat Police Station and G.Ps. Burhikura, Dammajhilua, Sandmara, Nonbatta, Makhni, Pathra and Punsiya in Godda Police Station in Godda sub-division; and Saraiyahat Police Station in Dumka Sadar sub-division.

17. Godda Vidhan Sabha Constituency - Godda Police Station (excluding G.Ps. Burhikura, Dammajhilua, Sandmara, Nonbatta, Makhni, Pathra and Punsiya) and Pathargama Police Station in Godda sub-division.

18. Mahagama Vidhan Sabha Constituency - Mahagama and Meherma Police Stations in Godda sub-division.
