!Golaghat District
Golaghat is a district in the state of Assam in India. It lies 100 meter above mean sea level in between Longitude 93°16' to 94°10' East and Latitude 25°50' to 26°47'North. It is bounded by the river Brahmaputra on the North; state of Nagaland on the South; district Jorhat on the East and Karbi Anglong and Nagaon district on the West. Golaghat town is the district headquarters.
The district derives its name from the word Golaghat, literally the landing place in the river where there is a shop. Several shops were established by the 'Marwari' businessmen during the mid-20th century AD on the banks of river Dhansiri near the present Golaghat town.
The total area of Golaghat district is 3502 sq km. Population as per census 2011 was 10,66,888.
Golaghat attained district status in 1987.
There are three subdivisions, eight development blocks, and 622 villages in this district.
