Hamadan
Hamadan is a city in Iran. It is an ancient Persian town, at the foot of Mount Elwend, 160 miles southwest of Teheran. It was an important entrepôt of Persian trade, and had flourishing tanneries by the beginning of the 20th century. It is believed to stand on the site of Ecbatana, the supposed capital of Astyages (Istuvegü), which was taken by the Persian emperor Cyrus the Great in the sixth year of Nabonidus (550/549 BC).Nearby pages
