Hang-Chow

Hang-Chow, also Hangchow or Hangzhou, is a Chinese city, a treaty-port since a war with Japan. It is situated at the mouth of the Tsien-tang at the entrance of the Imperial Canal, 110 miles southwest of Shanghai. It has been an important literary, religious, and commercial centre. By the beginning of 20th Century, it was well known for its flourishing silk factories, and was noted for its gold and silver ware.
