Hyderabad

Hyderabad is the capital city of the state of Telangana in India. It is also the headquarters town of the district of the same name. This city was founded by the fifth king of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah in 1590. He used to rule from Golconda.

The city was formerly known Bhagyanagar named after Sultan's beloved Bhagamathi. The name was changed twice or thrice before it was named Hyderabad Deccan.

Hyderabad was made capital by Asif Jah after he established his dynasty in 1724. It remained the capital city of Nizams Hyderabad state until 1956. With formation of the state of Andhra Pradesh, the city became its capital. After 2014, it is the capital of Telangana, a state carved out from Andhra Pradesh.

The city has several monuments including the globally famous Charminar.
