Hyder Ali
Hyder Ali (c. 1722-1782) was Mohammedan ruler of Mysore, now in India. He raised himself to be commander-in-chief of the army, and organised it on the French model. He unseated the rajah of the Kingdom of Mysore. He also conquered Calicut, Bednor, and Kananur. He waged war successfully against the English and the Mahrattas, and left his kingdom to his son Tippoo Saib, later known as Tipu Sultan.Nearby pages
