Jane Addams

Jane Addams (1860-1935) was a US social worker, reformer, feminist and pacifist. She worked for social justice for immigrants, women, children, and African Americans. She advocated fair housing and factory inspection.

She founded social settlement Hull house in Chicago in 1889 for the care and education of the poor. She became first women president of National Conference of social work in 1910. She was founder of National Federation of Settlement and also helped in founding American Liberties Union in 1920. She was president of the women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in 1919-1935. She was co-winner of Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.
