Janki Temple

Janki Temple is a temple that is dedicated to the adopted daughter of the king Janak of ancient Mithila who is known as Janki. There are two temples known by this name in Sitamarhi district of Bihar, one in the Sitamarhi town and the other at Punausa, 5 km south of Sitamarhi. Both the temples have same claim of being the birthplace of Janki or Sita, the wife of Rama, considered to be incarnation of the god Vishnu. The temple in Sitamarhi, however, seems to have been built about 100 years ago sometime in the beginning of 20th century.
