Jean Genet

Jean Genet (1910 - 1986) Jean Genet was a French novelist, playwright, poet, essayist, and political activist. He was a vagabond and petty criminal in his early life. When Genet was threatened with a life sentence in 1949 after ten convictions, Cocteau and other prominent figures, including Jean-Paul Sartre and Pablo Picasso, successfully petitioned the French President to have the sentence set aside.
