Joachim Raff

Joachim Raff (1822-1882) was a German-Swiss musical composer of the Wagner School, born at Lachen, in Switzerland. He began life as a schoolmaster, was attracted to music, studied at Weimar, lived near Liszt, and became Director of the Conservatorium at Frankfort-on-Main. His works include symphonies, overtures, with pieces for the violin and the piano.
