Journalism in Colombia
Despite the high position that cultural matters have always held in Colombia , it was not among the first Latin American countries to produce the printed word. The first printing press arrived in 1737, two centuries after such an event in Mexico. Even so, another half-century passed before a newspaper called Papel Peri'dico de la Ciudad de Santa F' de Bogot' emerged in 1791. As in most neighbouring lands, the real outburst of journalism came with the wars of independence in the early 1800s.Nearby pages
