Journalism in Indonesia
The history of journalism in Indonesia follows the disparate streams of the various languages. The first paper published in the Dutch East Indies was the Bataviasche Nouvelles, a Dutch language paper that appeared in 1744. Its editor was a Dutch official. The paper survived only two years. During the remainder of the century various Dutch journals appeared and disappeared. Few were concerned with local events; most were rewrites of news in papers received from Holland.Nearby pages
