JULES DUMONT D'URVILLE

JULES DUMONT D'URVILLE (1790-1842), a celebrated French navigator, born at Condé-sur-Noireau; made a three years' voyage round the world, and visited the Antarctic regions, of which he made a survey; he was distinguished as a scientist no less than a sea-captain; lost his life in a railway accident at Versailles.
