Kandukuri Viresalingam Pantulu (1848-1919) is considered as the father of modern Telugu literature. He wrote a novel, Rajasekhara Charitamu, which was inspired by the Vicar of Wakefield. He was the first person in modern Telugu to use literature to eradicate social evils.
