Lady Shikibu Murasaki

Lady Shikibu Murasaki (978-1030) was a Japanese writer, novelist, poet, and diarist. She was lady-in-waiting to Empress Akiko. She is credited to have authored world's first novel The Tale of Genji (c. 1008).
