Laïs

Laïs is the name of two Greek courtesans, the women who were celebrated for their beauty, the one a native of Corinth, who lived at the time of the Peloponnesian War (431 to 405 BC), and the other belonging to Sicily, and who, also known as Lais of Hyccara (died 340 BC), having visited Thessaly, was stoned to death by the women of the country out of jealousy.
