Lucretia Herschel

Lucretia Herschel (1750-1848), full name Caroline Lucretia Herschel, was a German born British astronomer, younger sister of the famous German astronomer Sir William Herschel. She was his assistant, and made important observations of her own, which were published. She retired after her brother's death to Hanover, where she died. She was the first woman to receive a salary as a scientist and the first woman in England to hold a government position.
