Marcus Marcellus

Marcus Marcellus (42-23 BC), full name Marcus Claudius Marcellus, was son of Gaius Claudius Marcellus (88 BC – 40 BC) and Octavia (c. 66 BC – 11 BC), the sister of Augustus (63 BC – AD 14), who had named him his heir. His decease at 20 was mourned as a public calamity, and inspired Virgil (70 BC – 19 BC) to pen his well-known lament over his death in the sixth book of the "Aeneid."
