Mohammad Ghori invaded and conquered northern Sind in 1175, but was defeated in 1178 by Raja Bhim Deo of Gujarat.

He fought the first battle of Tarain in 1191 in which he was defeated by Prithviraj Chauhan. However, the second battle of Tarain was fought in 1192 in which he defeated Prithviraj. It was the decisive battle that led to establishment of Mohammedan rule in India.

He came again to conquer Kanauj and Benaras in 1194.
