Newstead Abbey

Newstead Abbey is an abbey near Nottingham, founded by Henry II about the year 1170 by way of atonement for the murder of Thomas à Becket, which was given at the dissolution of the monasteries to an ancestor of Lord Byron, who lived in it and sold it, since which it has been restored. It is now best known as the ancestral home of Lord Byron, and under Nottingham City Council.
