Robert Ainsworth

Robert Ainsworth (1660-1743), also known as R Ainsworth in short, was an English Latin lexicographer, bom at Woodyale, near Manchester. He was author of the Well-known compendious Dictionary of the Latin Tongue. He began his career as schoolmaster at Bolton, but soon moved to London, and then other suburban villages. He published his dictionary after a labour of 20 years. He also worte "A Short Treatise on Grammar". He was also a numismatist and has been a hunter after old coins and other curiosities. He continued to run a school until he retired some years before his death. He was buried at St Matthias Old Church, Poplar, London.
