Sangam Age

Sangam Age is a name given to a period under the royal patronage of Pandiya kings in ancient southern India between the 1st and the second century. It derives its name from a college of Tamil poets who flourished in that period, called Sangam.

Sangam literature consists of about 2000 poems composed by nearly 500 poets and is normally assigned to the period between 1st Century BC and 1st Century AD. However, the culture reflected in this literature is pretty old and may be called the Dravidian Culture.
