Sebastian Franck

Sebastian Franck (1499-1542) was an early German writer, born at Donauwörth. From a Catholic priest became a Protestant, but he fell into disfavour for promulgating the doctrine that regeneration of life is of more importance than reform of dogma, and in 1531 was banished from Strasburg. Subsequently he became a soap-boiler and eventually a printer. His most noted work is his "Chronica," a rough attempt — the first in Germany — at a general history.
