Sir Benjamin Ward Richardson
Sir Benjamin Ward Richardson (1828-1896), a distinguished British physician and author, born at Somerby, Leicestershire. He took the diploma of the Royal College of Physicians in 1850, and graduated in medicine at St. Andrews four years later. He founded the Journal of Public Health in 1855, and The Asclepiad in 1861, and the Social Science Review in 1862. He won the Fothergilian gold medal and the Astley-Cooper prize of 300 guineas. He made many valuable medical inventions, and was an active lecturer on sanitary science, &c. He was knighted in 1893.Nearby pages
