ST. ALOYSIUS

ST. ALOYSIUS (1568-1591) was an Italian marquis, a nobleman, who renounced his title to become a Jesuit. He joined the Society of Jesus and devoted himself to the care of the plague-stricken in Rome.

He was later canonised for his devotion to the sick during the plague in Rome, to which he himself fell a victim, and died of it on June 21, 1591.
