Staffordshire

Staffordshire is a midland ceremonial county of England. It has been known as mining and manufacturing county of England, wedged in on the Noth between Cheshire (West) and Derby (North), and extending southward to Worcester, with Shropshire on the West, and Leicester and Warwick on the East. With the exception of the wild and hilly "moorland" in the North consists of an undulating plain crossed by the Trent, and intersected in all directions by canals and railways. It embraces two rich coal-fields, one in the "Black Country" of the Soth, where rich deposits of iron-stone are also worked, and one in the North, embracing the district of the "Potteries". Its famous breweries exist at Burton. County town in Stafford and chief towns are Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent.
