SUSA

SUSA (the Shushan of Daniel, Esther, &c.) is an ancient city of Persia now in Iran. The modern Iranian town of Shush is located at the site of ancient Susa which is now in ruins. It is spread over an area of 3 sq. m., on the Kerkha, 250 m. SE. of Bagdad; was for long the favourite residence of the Persian kings, the ruins of whose famous palace, described in Esther, are still extant.
