The President of India

The President of India is the constitutional head of the Nation as per the Constitution of India. President is elected in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote of the members of the electoral college consisting of elected members of both the Houses of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies.

Each vote is given suitable weightage to secure uniformity among states inter se as well as parity between them.

The qualification of the President is that he or she must be a citizen of India and should not be less than 35 years of age and is qualified for election as member of the Lok Sabha.

Term of office of the President of India is five years and is eligible for re-election. Removal of the President from office is possible through impeachment in accordance with procedure prescribed in Article 61 of the Constitution of India.
