Zacatecas

Zacatecas is a city of Mexico, which is the capital of an inland province of the same name, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Zacatecas. It is situated at about 440 miles North-West of Mexico City. It is traditionally a great silver-mining centre, an industry which employed over 10,000 of the inhabitants by the beginning of the 20th century. It is in a valley over 6000 ft. above the sea-level, and has several fine churches, a college, a mint, &c.
