There is realisation in the party that after being voted out of power in 2012, there is no growth in the BSP, which has demoralised the rank and file of the party.
Again in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, party saw erosion of its upper caste and support and a large number of dalits too shifted loyalty to Mr Narendra Modi to make him PM.
During last three years, there has been erosion in core voters of BSP with maximum number shifting to BJP, which they perceive as the next powerful party which could unseat Samajwadi Party.
BJP through its conscious attempts has been able to wean away a large number dalits by sharing meal with them and addressing to problems. On the other hand, BSP supremo Mayawati was not available to dalit leaders.
Even when Mayawati was in power, she could not establish direct contact with her party leaders, leave alone dalits.
Now BSP leadership has realised that unless the party cadre was galvanized, it would be difficult to face 2017 assembly elections.
BSP founder Kanshi Ram had laid the emphasis on the training of cadre and building the good team.
But after his death, BSP supremo deviated from the path and got busy in social engineering and started depending more on giving importance to upper caste leaders.
When she came to power, Mayawati gave tremendous power to Mr Satish Mishra, who had played important role as a lawyer in looking after her cases. So much so, more then 40 members of his family were given significant positions.
The core dalits leaders and voters were also unhappy the way Mayawati was wooing upper castes at the cost of dalits.
During last three years Mayawati also realised that there was erosion in the interest in dalits towards party and its programme.
So now in order to bring back the original workers, party has decided to conduct training programmes for the cadre by holding camps all over the state. The leadership feels that trained cadre would go to the masses and spread the message of Mayawati and good work of BSP government. (IPA)
