It would be worth mentioning that both the parties claim to be enjoying support from muslim community which help them to come to power in UP during last many polls. it was only when muslims were unhappy with Mulayam Singh Yadav for having joined hands with Kalyan Singh SP lost the elections. And BSP also came to power in 2007 when muslims supported BSP supremo Mayawati.

It may be mentioned here that the list of seven candidates of SP has names of controversial persons like Amar Singh, Beni Prasad Verma and Sanjay Seth but could not accommodate a single muslim.

In order to express the anger of muslim community, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmad Bukhari met SP supremo and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and told them that the community wanted to know as to why they could not accommodate a single muslim in the list for RajyaSabha. Bukhari said tht he told Mulayam that the presence of muslim representative in Rajya Sabha was very necessary as he would listen and speak for muslim community in the House.

Bukhari also said that he told Mulayam that he was upset as party repeated the nomination of Bhukkal Nawab who had no backing from from the community nor he could present the issues of the community in UP Legislative Council properly,

Ahmad Bukhari also told Mulayam Singh Yadav that majority of promises made to muslim’s in 2012 assembly elections remained unfulfilled. Only one promise was fulfilled that was construction of boundary walls outside graveyards. He said the promises to provide reservations to muslim’s also remain unfulfilled.

Bukhari said that he told Mulayam and his chief minister son Akhilesh to start fulfilling the promises made to the community as there was hardly any time left before next assembly polls. He suggested that Akhilesh govt should grant four per cent reservation to muslims to begin with and start opening urdu schools all over the state and open employment for muslim youths.

Similarly Muslims are also not happy with BSP which could not include even a single muslim in list for Rajya Sabha and UP Legislative Council. BSP list includes brahmin and dalit for Rajya Sabha and has accomodated backward in the list for UP legislative Council.

Although BSP supremo has engaged senior leader Nasimuddin Siddiqui to win over muslims with a promise to share power once the party is voted to power. But muslims are not happy as they ask why Mayawati could not find a single person from community for Rajya Sabha or UP Legisaltive Council.

Now the muslim community is looking toward Congress where sitting MP in Rajya Sabha Capt. Satish Sharma will retire in July. Although former Union Minister Kapil Sibal and UPCC president Nirmal khattri are in the race but surprisingly former MLA from Saharanpur, Imran Masood who has a great hold over the community in western UP, is also meeting Rahul Gandhi to stake his claim. Now Congress high command is under pressure to accommodate a Muslim for Rajya Sabha or UP legislative Council.

Now it is to be seen as to how major political parties accommodate members from minority community or face wrath during forthcoming UP Assembly polls in 2017. (IPA Service)
