ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, is the world's largest educational and scientific computing society, uniting educators, researchers and professionals. Founded on September 15, 1947, some 62 years back at Columbia University , New York , it has over 95,000 members from 100 countries presently and it has significantly contributed to advances in computing science, engineering, research and education worldwide.
Every year ACM recognizes excellence through its eminent series of awards for outstanding technical and professional achievements and contributions in computer science and information technology. ACM Fellow Grade is ACM's most prestigious recognition recognizing top most ACM members in the field of Computing & IT.
Earlier in 2006, the world's oldest and largest Society in Electronics, Computers, IT and emerging technologies had conferred its Fellow IEEE Award to Dr. Bhatkar simultaneously in three fields, namely supercomputing, broadband & multilingual technology. Dr. Vijay Bhatkar is a recipient of many national awards, including Padmashri and Maharashtra Bhushan the highest civilian recognitions from Government of India and Government of Maharashtra respectively. Dr. Vijay Bhatkar gets 'ACM Fellow Award'

Pune: This year, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Chief Mentor of ETH / I2IT / Multiversity, founder Executive Director of C-DAC, the man who gave India its first indigenous supercomputer, PARAM, has been chosen for ACM Fellow Award (Association for Computing Machinery, USA) for his contributing to advanced computing research and education. This is perhaps for the first time an Indian has been chosen for this recognition for his work carried out entirely in India .
