The only exception is PM Narendra Modi for whom the party is making extra efforts to mobilize all resources to show good crowd. But the political experts feel that euphoria of 2014 is missing at Modi rallies.
In some places, rallies addressed by Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati, were much bigger than those of Modi.
Although recent cancellation of Modi rally at Nanpara in Bahraich was attributed to bad weather but opposition charged that due to thin attendance, PM Modi refused to land at the venue and addressed rally through mobile phone from Lucknow.
BSP national President Mayawati has repeatedly charged that Modi rallies in UP proved to be great flop as people were very angry with BJP due to hardships they are facing due to demonetisation and poor arrangement of cash at banks and ATMs.
There are reports that Prime Minister has cancelled his Lucknow rally scheduled for December 24 only because of possibility of thin attendance. Now sitting MP and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will address the rally and participate in road show in his constituency,
The situation is so bad for BJP that national President Amit Shah cancelled his address at parivartan rally at Sultanpur where crowd consisted of only hard core BJP workers. Amit Shah refused to go there and sent Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to represent party.
So much so in Sambhal area in Moradabad that local organisers had to arrange programme of bar dancers at the dias to hold the crowd for Parivartan rally.
Lack of coordination among senior BJP leaders was also visible at parivartan yatras where Union Miniser Kalraj Mishra refused to join hands with BJP state President Keshav Prasad Maurya at the dias.
Shocked by flop rallies and thin attendance, RSS top brass have arrived in Lucknow to discuss the situation with the local leaders and find the solution to motivate people to participate in parivartan yatras.
BJP leaders are also worried with the people’s anger due to monetisation and lack of activities by local MPs in their constituencies during last two and half years.
During parivartan yatra at Hathras, local MP Rajesh Diwakar was hooted by public for not showing his face since 2014 elections. People wanted to know as what he has done for the constituency during this period. When people refused to listen to Rajesh Diwakar then he had to leave the mike and Aligarh MP Satish Gautam took over and addressed the crowd and apologised.
Now BJP and the Sangh Parivar are making all efforts to make Modi rally at parivartan yatra at Kanpur a grand success on December 19.
The people in advance have got invitation and entire Kanpur is flooded with saffron posters. The local BJP workers have been told by high command that the Modi rally at Kanpur has to be made bigger compared to SP and BSP rallies and the PM’s prestige is involved.
Political analysts feel that this thin attendance at parivartan rallies is reflection of lack of development work done by local MPs during last two and half years and hardship people are facing due to demonetisation. The SP and te BSP are in a position to take advantage of this disaffection of people with the government at the centre and the BJP. (IPA Service)
