When Yogi took over as chief minister, he ordered that all senior bureaucrats should declare their property within the stipulated time but despite reminders there has been no success so far.
The new Chief Minister had assured the people that his government would ensure 24 hour supply of power, especially in rural areas but the ground reality is quite different. People now compare the power situation with that of the Akhilesh Yadav government and say it was better then. Now power cuts have increased all over the state.
In the elections, the BJP got overwhelming support from the people, which was reflected in the unprecedented tally of 325 seats in the assembly. Communal polarisation and deterioration in the law and order situation were two important issues that went against the Akhilesh Yadav government. Despite changing the Principal Secretary Home, DGP and effecting a major reshuffle in the police force, there is no improvement in the law and order situation.
Within three days of taking over, Aditya Nath had ordered complete repairs of the state’s road network by June 15 but the target is unlikely to be met. It seems that the chief minister has no control over his bureaucracy and that is why his orders are not being implemented.
The manner in which the transfer of key bureaucrats took place gives the impression that Yogi has had little say in these transfers. So much so, the chief minister took too much time in deciding the DGP or his own secretariat. He could not appoint an officer of his choice as his principal secretary although he got an official relieved from the centre for that purpose.
According to reports, certain senior leaders from the BJP and officers in PMO are playing an important role in key postings in the state. As the postings are directed from the centre and the party, Yogi is finding it difficult to get his orders implemented by the bureaucrats at the ground level.
Another major problem for Yogi Aditya Nath is the lack of experience in governance issues. Neither the chief minister nor his two deputies Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya and the two spokespersons Sidharth Nath Singh and Srikant Sharma have any experience in this regard as all of them are first-timers.
Yogi Aditya Nath is also facing problems due to the irresponsible behavior of some of his own ministers, party MPs and MLAs as well as workers.
There have been more than half a dozen instances during last three months when BJP MLAs created law and order problems and threatened police officials. So much so that the UP IPS Officers Association and Home Guard Associations have expressed resentment over the behavior of BJP leaders.
The majority of state bureaucracy has no working experience with a BJP ministry as the saffron party was out of power for more than 15 years. The state government is busy collecting facts and figures on the achievements of the first 100 days, but the picture on the ground is not very rosy. (IPA Service)
