Party General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy presented a report on the recent economic and political developments which after a thorough discussion by the council members was adopted unanimously. The meeting endorsed the decision of the party national executive to work for creating a broad platform of secular, democratic and left forces — a people’s platform — to defend the Constitution, secularism and democracy form the onslaughts of the Sangh Parivar and its affiliates with the full support of the RSS-BJP led Narendra Modi government.
This platform will mobilise the people in defence of the great values of India against which the BJP and RSS have declared a war and the party is confident that the Left along with other democratic and secular forces will meet challenges successfully and take the country and people forward.
The general secretary through a resolution moved by him and later adopted unanimously by the council pointed out that the grave situation in Jammu and Kashmir is due to the basically wrong policies and approach adopted by the Union government led by Modi. It is treating the problems as a law and order issue which is resulting in increased confrontation between the people and the law enforcing agencies, including the armed forces resulting in the further alienation of the people there in particular the youth. The sense of alienation is so deep and widespread that even the girl students are taking to the streets.
The party reiterated its stand that the government should start negotiations with all stake holders in the state. The basis for such talks must be the restoration of the special status granted to the state under Article 370 of the Constitution along with agreeing to honour and respect all the promises and commitments made to the J&K people at the time of accession of the state with Indian Union.
The National Council also decided to hold 23rd Party Congress in Kerala which is scheduled to be held in the first week of May. The state unit will be working out the details. The Council also decided to hold the conferences at branch, intermediary, district and state levels accordingly. (IPA)
