Shortly after the announcement of the decision by Union Home P Chidambaram in New Delhi to create the new state, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao ended his 11-day fast undertaken to press for Telangana state.
The decision on Telangana was taken at a late night meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah after two rounds of consultations in the Congress Core Committee with Sonia Gandhi and senior cabinet colleagues.
'After these consultations, I am making this statement. The process of forming the state of Telangana will be initiated. An appropriate resolution will be moved in the state Assembly,' Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters late in the night.
The Centre and the Congress party were forced to take such a step after further deterioration in the health of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, whose fast-unto-death entered the 11th day on Wednesday and tensions simmered in the entire Telangana region apprehending the worst.
Rao broke his fast by having a glass of juice from TRS ideology Jayashankar and celebrations by TRS activists and other pro-Telangana supporters erupted on the streets of Hyderabad following the Centre's decision.
Buyoyed by the Centre's yielding to the demand for a separate Telangana state, Telagana Rashtra Samiti last night decided to convert Thursday's proposed march-to-Assembly called to press for the statehood into a 'victory march'.
'We have decided to convert tomorrow's Chalo Assembly into a victory march', seniormost TRS leader T Harish Rao told reporters in Hyderabad.#
