The Expert Committee for National Film Awards would consist of following officials/non-officials members S/Sh. Shyam Benegal, Ashok Vishwanathan, Rajiv Mehrotra, Vishal Bhardwaj, Nagesh Kuknoor, Mohan Agashe, Jahnu Baruah, Shaji Karun along with Ms. Sai Paranjape, Smt. Sharmila Tagore, Ms. Waheeda Rehman and Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting as Member Secretary and also Director, Directorate of Film Festival.

This Committee shall make recommendations regarding upgradation of National Film Awards for Feature, Non-Feature and Best writing on Cinema and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award and the resultant changes to be made in the Regulations thereto. The Committee shall elect a Chairperson from among the Members in its first meeting.

The Expert Committee constituted for IFFI consists of following official/non-official members S/Sh. Govind Nihalani, Karan Johar, Pritish Nandy, Prasoon Joshi, Kamal Haasan, A.K.Bir, Laxmikant Shetgaonkar, C.S.Sapra, MLC, Maharashtra along with Ms. Shabana Azmi, Pooja Shetty Deora, Kishwar Desai, Maithili Rao and Nandita Das and Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting as Member Secretary, Chief Secretary, Government of Goa and Director, Directorate of Film Festival.

The Committee shall make recommendations regarding up gradation of International Film Festival of India on the lines of other reputed International Festivals and the resultant changes to be made in the Regulations thereto. The Committee shall also make recommendations regarding the changes to be made in the selection of Indian Panorama films both feature and non-feature categories and resultant changes to be made in the Indian Panorama Regulations. The Committee shall elect a Chairperson from among the Members in the first meeting.

It may be recalled that soon after taking over office, the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Smt. Ambika Soni had desired that the prestigious National Film Awards, instituted by the Government of India since the year 1954, need to be reinvented as there have been major changes in the aspirations along with technological growth in film making. Even for the International film Festival of India Smt. Soni envisaged that the IFFI needs to be profiled higher to be recognized one amongst the best film festivals of the world comparable to Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival etc.#
